The Sunshine Blogger Award

Hello dear people! I’m plotzing (dying, falling over) over here. Su, from, she nominated me for The Sunshine Blogger Award! Over here in ‘these internets,’ this is like an Oscar and I feel like Frances McDormand or The Shape of Water well not so much that! Look at all that glitter!

Su, this one is for you, and it comes from the heart:

Thank you so much! A sheyer veyner danke!

Now, the point of this lovely award is to get to know a bissel (little) bit more about the bloggers, in this case, me. So, whatever Su asks me, I will tell you all! Without further ado, I bring you much ado about me! ❤

Q1. Your blog’s name – why have you given this name to your blog? What’s in a name, right? In reality, the name of my blog is, Are we there yet? I just could never get it (the real name) to show up! No joke. LisaPomerantzster did, and despite all efforts right this heinous, tragic albeit fatal design flaw, I hit publish, and whoosh, there she was. I figured it was okay since it is also my email, should you want to write me? There was already a LisaPomerantz on Gmail, so I added the ‘ster’ for pizazz. Nu?

Q2. When did you start blogging? My very first post was on 9/23/14. It would be almost a full year until I wrote anything at all again. How lame is that Now, any time I can steal away, usually around 4 am when all are sleeping, is blog time.

Q3. What prompted you to start a blog? It was and remains to be, way cheaper than going to therapy. Not that I still couldn’t benefit from a few sessions, mind you I could write about anything and everything, share my shtik (spiel, act) spill my shpilkes (state of agitation, nerves) and hear back from people who not only took the time to read my little space in the universe, they commented! Good, bad or indifferent, YOU spoke back to ME! I was amazed, intrigued, and have made many wonderful friends on this journey! And, it is yet to be determined if I am even a little bit less, meshuggeneh (cray-cray)!

Q4. Name one favorite blogger that you are a big fan of right now.  Mackenzie Glanville, of Reflections from Me

Q5. Why is she/ he/ they are your favorite blogger at this moment in time? Mac, to quote her directly, ‘believes everyone deserves a beautiful life.’ Her posts are about mindfulness, balance, moments in time, chaotic or blissful, and they always seem to arrive at the exact moment in time that I need them. That’s a gift for me! She’s authentic, true and speaks her values. How can you not love that? M’wah!

Q6. Where one place on earth would you go if you received an invitation to go traveling without money bring the limit? & Why? Heck, if money is no object, I can walk down the street a little easier! The Mrs. and me, we talked about one day taking the girls to some of the great wonders in the US — like the Grand Canyon, or Bryce Canyon. I love the red rock! And, that would allow for our the answer to Q8 too! Spain has been calling my name. I feel it. Costa Rica would be sweet. Anywhere in Italy, again. I must say, we like to be anywhere with our extended families too! I am very lucky that we all enjoy each other and have amazing family on both sides — we love to be with them all, wherever that is, as long as we are together.

Q7. What is your one favorite cheer up food when you are feeling down in the dump? Ice cream. Chocolate chip mint ice cream. Coffee ice cream. Did I mention ice cream? Oh, and I do not need to be sad to eat ice cream. I’m one of those people who cannot eat when I am down in the dumps, nervous, anxious, or upset. Oy, it’s a wonder I eat at all! Actually, it drives the Mrs. crazy!

A nice Women’s March — teach them to be good, caring people!

Q8. What’s your one favorite thing to do with your family? How can I limit this to one thing! My time with my mishpocheh (family) is priceless. All things together are good, even the really crappy, whiny, tantrummy times. But I guess, I like it best when we all go on a family hike, or even or some family activism, like the Women’s March!

Q9. What is your dream job when you were young? I wanted to be an illustrator, living it up in NYC. I gave it a good go and had to begin the process of reinventing myself around ~1998.

Q10. What is your dream job now? Supporting my family is what’s really important. That is the stuff my dreams are made of! Because it is no easy task. Ich macht a labent (I’m makin’ a living.) Balancing the line between working too much and living at all… My dream job now, it would allow me to make enough to not worry so much, control my own hours, be my own big macher (boss), so I can see the play at school, run to the dance rehearsals, and grab a romantic lunch or two no, not Chipotle with the Mrs. in between. The important things.

Q11. If you can to give back to the world – what would that one thing be? Empathy. Our world needs a lot of empathy, especially now.

Me and my Mrs., and that smile of hers. This is what matters.

Thank you again, Su, for this amazing award! Now for the rules:

Me? The Mystery Blogger Award

Yes! Let me start off, nachas (unbridled joy) aside, with the BIGGEST THANK YOU to my friend Ann at Grubbs and Critters for passing on the torch of the Mystery Blogger Award.

Okoto Enigma, creator of this beautiful honor writes, “Mystery Blogger Award”is an award for amazing bloggers with ingenious posts.  Their blog not only captivates; it inspires and motivates.  They are one of the best out there and they deserve every recognition they get.  This award is also for bloggers who find fun and inspiration in blogging and they do it with so much love and passion.

If you think I’m anything short of farklempt (all choked up over this), gutinue (oh my), you know me well!

  1. Proudly display the award image on your blog — I’m kvelling (literally, I’m bursting with pride!)
  2. List the rules (in process now)
  3. Thank Ann at Grubbs and Critters (whoever) for nominating me (you) and provide a link to their blog. Ann, you ROCK!
  4. Mention Okoto Enigmathe ingenious creator of this award and provide a link too
  5. Tell your readers 3 things about yourself — no tsuris (trouble) here, I’m a blogger!
  6. You have to nominate (10 – 20, or 300) bloggers — a simcha! (cause to rejoice!)
  7. Notify your nominees by commenting on their blog — me, interact and comment! 🙂
  8. Ask your nominees any 5 questions of your choice; with one weird or funny question (specify)
  9. Share a link to your best post(s)

3 things about me?

  • I try very hard to live my life with empathy and humor — they need to go together, or life delivers too much shpilkes (that feeling of pins and needles and you may puke a bit…)
  • I absolutely, positively love Yiddish and want to keep this robust language alive! I’m Jewish by birth, but I practice Tai Chi…nu (so)?
  • I love to laugh. And sometimes, sometimes, I laugh so hard that I pisheh meyn hoisen (pee my pants), just a little. What? You wanted me to share?

My favorite posts
I have a few posts I like a bissel (little). Here, let me share with you all: I AM WOMAN HEAR ME ROAR, The Vulnerability that is TimeThe Rule of Kind, and Let Them Play!

And the next set of nominations proudly go to:
So many people in this blogosphere that I admire, look up to, read. This one’s for all of you (in no particular order). If it’s not your thing, that is okay. Just know how much you mean to me in your words, your wisdom and your ability to make me laugh and/or cry:

My 5 questions to answer:

  • What the weirdest thing you have experienced in the last 3 months? the 2016 US Presidential Election – an old Yiddish proverb says, “If he were twice as smart, he’d be an idiot!” I agree.
  • What’s your favourite children’s book? Zen Shorts, I read it often, and without the kids…it’s that good
  • Would you rather live under the sea or on the moon? Moon, because I like moon pies (aka scooterpies)
  • You discovered that the child you brought home a year ago was not your own as a result of a mix-up. What would you do? Continue to love he/she out loud
  •  Euthanasia – yes or no and why? Yes, because sometimes life (end of life) sucks, and we seem to be kinder to animals

Your 5 questions for you to answer, get the grey matter going you know?:

  • What is the best mistake you ever made?
  • Rain or snow, and why?
  • What is one thing in history you would like to change?
  • What best motivates you?
  • What is your absolute, favorite all-time movie?

Thanks All!

Wishing everyone a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year! L’Chiam! To life!

“I am the Entertainer…”

Okay, so let me start today with a very big M’wah (smooch) to Stephanie (a HuffPo contributor!) at Making Time For Me, who, has, well, made my week twice in a row (and vey iz mere, this has been a rough fortnight, no one should know from) by honoring me with this very special award, The Entertainer. Additionally, my incredible blogger-loving friend Stephanie, reblogged a post of mine on her site yesterday. Kvelling so much (oozing with happiness and pride), my heart has palpitations (a doctor, you think maybe I should call one, oy)!

Stephanie, I am happy to answer the call of The Entertainer award (and feeling very reminiscent of Billy Joel, happily), and even happier to be appreciated by the work I am doing here at my keyboard, in my growing corner of the blogosphere. Thank you doesn’t begin to tell you how I feel.

And here, are the rules, for without them, we have anarchy (dig to ‘Mr. rhymes with Rump’):

  1. Display the award image on your blog
  2. Write a post about the award, and graciously applaud your fellow blogger (with love and thankfulness)
  3. Answer the questions
  4. Share the blogger love by nominating others

Here are the questions:

Why did you start to blog in the first place?

The truth is, I started typing up my spiel because it is a helluva lot cheaper than therapy. I get to release my story, the good, the bad and the ugly, to you my dear readers, who I have granted honorary therapeutic degrees that allow me to heal in a world that is filled with tsuris (troubles) and naches (joy). Now mind you, I’m not always kvetching (complaining), but dreck (shit crap) happens. Without the dreck, where would the joy be? Armed with my old faithful, MacBook Pro, my iPhone camera and this journey called life, I  write about my muses, the loves of my world, the Mrs., Little and Big and our whacky adventures through my ‘glass half-full’ looking glass. We are two mommas with two girls and a pup named Gatsby, the only man of the house.

Together, I hope we can laugh, cry, learn and inspire each other. I want for us to find our commonalities, embrace our differences and hopefully grow with strength, empathy and compassion. And of course, I want to make you laugh. All the while, I am trying to keep the beautiful, dying language of Yiddish (thank you Nanny Helen) alive.

What is your favorite book?

This changes daily, weekly. Well you get me. I love reading, and with the littles, I read a lot of stories. Currently, I am one with, Zen Shorts, by Jon Muth. Some days, I read it just for me. I recommend it for every one of every age.

What is your favorite pastime activity?

I love spending time with my mishpocheh (family). On a nice day, we all sneaker up and head to the Wissahicken, a gorgeous, ginormous park, filled with trails and hikes and eye candy-scenery. We take along snacks and water, have Gatsby by our side, and we explore the nature around us. The fab five together is all I need (and then we tick check, not so fun)!

Without further ado, I present to you my nominations, my fellow entertainers:

Thank you all for doing what you do! You have enriched my world in ways I cannot explain! M’wah!

The Blogger Recognition Award! Thank You!

Thank you BumbisMom for this award!
Thank you BumbisMom for this award!

A Fellow blogger, BumbisMom, who I so admire, has nominated me for the Bloggers Recognition award! Such nachas (pride that is oozing from my pores) I’m feeling! I mean, BumbisMom! Not only is her blog always awesome, her daughter is amazing and I wish they were my neighbors so that my Little and Big could play with her Bumbi.

Now, indulge me please, as I play by the rigorous rules of the blogosphere.

The Rules

  1. Thank the person, BumbisMom, in my case, who nominated you and give a link to their blog (DONE!) And, Mwah! and a for you and Bumbi!
  2. Display the award in a post and kvell (write about it, boast) to your heart’s content
  3. Share your spiel (story) and why you blog
  4. Offer some keen wisdom or nugget of knowledge to up and coming bloggers
  5. Nominate the bloggers you look to, admire, read, and are inspired by

How it all started:

I gotta tell ya, these last couple of years have handed us some Tsuris (grief and heartache) with a capital ‘T‘ that I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy.  (Don’t you worry, my glass stays almost always half full.) To deal with these tumultuous times, I have sought out the only affordable therapy I can muster, and that is with you, via my blog. YOU my readers, have been granted a full degree in shrinkology to help me through, as I type about my life, my tirades, my joys, my pains, and my funny ideas. You are really very good at this! It will help you tremendously if you read everything I type with a bit of an ‘old Jewish, Bernie Sanders’ kind of tone. I have somehow channeled my great Aunt Frieda ( a nice pistachio cake she made!) and have become well versed in all the Yiddish I over heard as a child. Yiddish helps me share my ‘slice of the pie‘ in a more robust way, cause after all,  if a Yiddisheh momma knows something is wrong, you need to eat bubbelah (an affectionate way to refer to someone)! Have some pie. You must be starving…

Little and Big, sledding on Two Mother's Day!

What I wish I knew as a neophyte blogger:

  • WordPress University — They rock! Sign up in The Commons. Did I mention that the classes are free!
  • Interact with other bloggers – read, respond, ask questions – bloggers are good people
  • Be authentic and write from your heart

The Envelopes Please:

There are so many bloggers I thoroughly enjoy, learn, cry and laugh with every day. Thank you all for that! If you want to play along with the recognition love, please do when time permits. If you don’t, a bei gesunt (at least you should be healthy). I pass along the torch of the Bloggers Recognition award to:

Again, big thanks to BumbisMom for this honor. Please take the time, make the time to meet my friends. They are simply fabulous!

(Yes, Jewish kids can perform in a ballet about goyim, or non-jews). Well, I also felt this good when the Mrs. and me, we had time enough to casually binge watch every episode of Doc Martin on TV! I digress…Thank you Ann for this splendid award! I will not rest on my laurels here, rest assured!
